As finals week approaches, students all over campus are beginning to feel the pressure to keep their grades up right before the big exam season. Consequently, many student organizations are experiencing a decrease in attendance at weekly meetings since students often must forgo the meetings in favor of studying or finishing homework assignments.
That is why the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) has begun a campaign of partnering with different organizations for workshop and group study activities. There are no fees required to participate, and these workshops usually include an hour of group study work and an hour or some sort of craft or fun activity.
Some examples of these crafts include making dragon eggs with the South Alabama Tabletop and Hobby Club and making bookmarks with USA Spectrum. David Leachman, a member of USA Spectrum, attended the bookmark-making event.
“It was a nice break from going from class to class while still being able to focus on your studies,” Leachman said. ”I feel like I met so many new people there.”
Angela Bradley, an employee of the CAE, was inspired to organize this campaign.
“The priority of the CAE is to let students know that asking for help is okay,” Bradley said.
Bradley encourages any officers or leaders of student organizations to reach out to the CAE to schedule a workshop.
To reach them, the CAE can be found on the second floor of the Marx Library or emailed at cae@southalabama.edu.
