Get Connected with MCOB

As we move deeper into the semester and students across campus fall back into the groove of school, it isn’t uncommon for everything to feel a bit more serious. With the year flying by, students throughout the university are encouraged to search for things to get involved in. Whether it is to bulk up a resume, find a community, or even to check off engagement menu points, the Mitchell College of Business (MCOB) makes it easier for business students to find where they belong through Get Connected Day.

Get Connected Day is an event filled with opportunities to meet and connect with student organizations within MCOB. Students from all disciplines are welcome to attend, even those outside of the college. This year, much of MCOB’s faculty was in attendance and excited to meet students.

Dr. Jennifer Zoghby, Assistant Professor of Management, emphasized the importance of Get Connected Day for students.

“Get connected day is an important time for students to talk to other students about organizations,” said Zoghby. “We know that the more involved students are here at our college and across the university, the better college experience they’ll have, and we want all of our students to have a great experience here at USA.”

Faculty in attendance also included MCOB dean, Dr. Michael Capella, who was personally helping grill the pile of burgers, hot dogs, and other treats for students stopping by on the hot day. To beat the heat, the Student Government Association handed out ice cream, and Mitchell College of Business ambassadors handed out sodas and water to anyone who was interested.

Many different clubs and associations were in attendance, reaching out to students who were looking for something to join. There were clubs targeted towards specific majors such as the accounting club and the supply chain club, but there were also some which could apply to any major. CEO, the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization held a table, as did Club 5:05, which is similar to an MCOB debate club!

There were even more activities for students to engage in and connect with one another, including a cornhole setup, a raffle to enter at the front of the building, and some mini-games and trinkets to win at the club tables. The event seemed to be a hit across the MCOB campus.

“I saw everyone having a great time and talking, which made me enjoy Get Connected Day even more,” said Taylor Jackson, a sophomore accounting major. “I went to the Accounting Club table to talk about joining, and the girl I talked to was really sweet. The food was great and the people were extremely friendly and easy to talk to.”

This event happens once every Fall, but students will have plenty of opportunities to get involved throughout the school year. Though not all MCOB clubs are registered on Involve South, bulletin boards in MCOB and organization social media pages are always updated with the latest meeting dates.
