The University of South Alabama’s One Stop team recently held its “Party on the Patio” event on Oct. 30, showcasing the support services available to students. Elizabeth Bordeaux, the director of One Stop, shared her enthusiasm about the event and the crucial role One Stop plays on campus.

“Many students don’t realize that we’re here to help them with any questions or challenges they face,” Bordeaux said.

One Stop is a comprehensive support center, ready to tackle everything from financial aid inquiries to wellness resources. Yet, because the team launched during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students are still discovering all that One Stop has to offer.

Held twice a year, in October and March, “Party on the Patio” connects students in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. This year’s event was bursting with Halloween-themed activities including trick-or-treating and thrilling games like air hockey and jumbo Pong. There was also a popcorn station decked out in South Alabama’s red, white, and blue colors.

“We want students to see us as approachable and supportive, not just a team they visit for serious questions,” Bordeaux said.

Bordeaux also highlighted the valuable resources One Stop provides, such as the South CARES program, which supports students facing unexpected financial challenges, and the JAGPantry for those experiencing food insecurity. “Our goal is for students to know there’s a team here to support them, no matter what they’re going through!” she said.

When asked about the lasting impact of such events on campus culture, Bordeaux expressed hope and excitement. “Being part of a supportive community helps students not just academically but also personally. Events like these create fantastic opportunities to connect with peers, faculty, and staff, making the college experience even more enriching!”

With its lively atmosphere, the “Party on the Patio” allowed students to unwind from midterm stress, discover campus resources, and feel more at home at USA. Bordeaux and the One Stop team hope that students left feeling supported, valued, and energized for upcoming academic adventures.
