MOBILE, Ala. — A $60 million entertainment complex featuring outdoor and indoor water parks, sports facilities, and lodging could soon transform South Mobile County. The proposed project, known as Jubilee Park, was unveiled by the Mobile County Commission and developers earlier this month.
The plan calls for creating a regional tourism destination that combines recreation with economic development. Developers say the complex would create hundreds of jobs and draw families from across the Gulf Coast. County leaders signed a letter of intent with Leisure Sports and Recreation, LLC (LSAR), the company behind Gulf Islands Waterpark in Mississippi, to begin the planning process.
The 90-acre site is located near the Mobile County Sportsplex, about one mile from the I-10 and I-65 interchange. If approved, Jubilee Park would be built in phases. The first attractions could open by 2027, with the outdoor water park and hotel slated for completion by 2029.
Planned amenities include a 20-acre outdoor water park, a 15,000-square-foot indoor water park, a multi-use sports center, an amphitheater, and future hotel accommodations. County officials believe the development will boost tourism and keep local dollars in Mobile rather than sending families to nearby states for similar attractions.
“This is a transformative project,” said Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson during the announcement. “When you put all of this together, it is a dream realized.”
Glenn Haggerty, CEO of Leisure Sports and Recreation, said his team sees Mobile as a prime location. “It is quite ambitious, but we believe Mobile is ready for it and worthy of creating a tourism destination like this,” Haggerty said.
Local residents and business owners have already expressed optimism about the project’s potential impact. Developers estimate Jubilee Park will create 300 to 400 seasonal jobs, along with additional construction and permanent positions.
While the proposal remains in early stages, the combination of private investment and county support has generated excitement. If completed, Jubilee Park could become one of the Gulf Coast’s largest family entertainment destinations, and a new economic engine for Mobile.
