It is that time of the year again folks: football season! The South Alabama Jaguars are gearing up for another season on the gridiron. While head coach Kane Wommack is
heading into his second year with the Jaguars, the team is looking to build off some of the success they had last season, finishing off with a 5-7 record.
The Jaguars look to be much improved on the offensive line and at running back. At the wide receiver position, they will have to have players step up and fill in for former WR Jalen Tolbert who was drafted to the Dallas Cowboys in early April. I believe that the WR corps is ready to do just that with #0 Jalen Wayne, #9 Devin Voisin, and others. The Jags will also have a new face at quarterback in Toledo transfer Carter Bradley.
On defense, the Jaguars return a loaded bunch led by senior defensive back #18 Darrell Luter Jr. Last season, the Jaguar defense ranked 40th in the nation with 354.7 yards per game.
The Jaguars open the season at home against Nicholls State on Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. in Hancock Whitney Stadium for Parents’ Weekend. This will be the fourth meeting of Nicholls State and South Alabama with the Jags taking the victory in all three previous games.
