More than 1,000 new freshmen move into their dorms to begin the next chapter of their lives. Move-in day kicks off South Alabama’s Week of Welcome, two weeks of special events throughout campus.
USA faculty, staff and returning students unloaded vehicles and carried belongings to the freshmen’s new room. Students moved into 33 residence halls including the freshmen only halls Azalea, Camellia, and Epsilon 1 and 2.
“Residence halls for first-year students are important, because they provide a supportive environment for building peer-to-peer relationships,” said Dr. Nicole Carr, associate vice president for Student Academic Success and co-chair of Week of Welcome festivities.
The Class of 2023 is excited to begin this new journey as they are welcomed with two weeks of events to become acquainted and connected to their new home at South Alabama. The Week of Welcome is a schedule full of academic and social events from Move-In Day to First Night on campus, Convocation, and Get on Board Day.
“I’m ready to get started! I’m looking forward to meeting new people and stepping out of my comfort zone to see what South has to offer me,” said Aryana Carter, an exercise science major from Birmingham, Alabama.
The first day of classes begins Tuesday, Aug. 20.
