The University of South Alabama has welcomed a new student organization, Women in Pre-Med, to its campus. The organization provides an opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in health care to connect with others who share similar academic and professional goals.
Women in Pre-Med is a national organization founded at Tuskegee University in 2022. The organization is dedicated to empowering women pursuing careers in health care by providing resources such as networking opportunities, mentorship, professional development and leadership experiences. These opportunities can help members gain valuable knowledge and build connections that can support them throughout their academic and professional journeys.
The organization also emphasizes diversity and inclusion by welcoming women from a variety of backgrounds. Women in Pre-Med works to create an environment where members feel valued, respected and supported. This allows students to build relationships with others while learning from different experiences and perspectives.
Women in Pre-Med has grown to more than 23 chapters and nearly 500 members nationwide. The University of South Alabama chapter was chartered on June 24, 2026, bringing the organization and its mission to the university campus. The new chapter gives students another way to become involved on campus while preparing for careers in the health care field.
The University of South Alabama chapter will provide students interested in health care careers with opportunities to connect with peers and mentors while developing professional skills that can support their future careers. Members will also have opportunities to participate in activities focused on leadership, networking, professional development and community involvement. Through these experiences, Women in Pre-Med can help students build confidence, expand their professional networks, and prepare for the challenges of pursuing careers in health care. The organization represents another opportunity for students at the University of South Alabama to grow academically, professionally and personally.
