Mobile Mardi Gras: Where the Party Started

Part 1: Mobilians are proud that their fair city is the birthplace of the original Mardi Gras — and for them, the holiday is all about family and tradition. Producer D’Mitri Wren followed one family who celebrates Mardi Gras to the fullest extent.
 Part 2: One of the things that makes Mardi Gras so entertaining is the music. Aside from the floats and the beads, the live music from the bands marching down the street is exhilarating. Producer Sam Hudson takes us into the world of Mardi Gras music.
Part 3: King Cakes are a staple for the Mardi Gras season. Over the years, Paul’s Pastry has made a name for itself throughout both the Mississippi and Alabama region for its specialty King Cakes. Producer Brandon Raines discovers how the treats are made… and finds out what exactly that plastic baby is all about.
 Part 4: For some, Mardi Gras is a time to kick back and relax. But others have a very specific goal: coming home with as many goodies as possible. Producer Kolby Johnson takes us into the world of parades and finds out what people are willing to do for their Mardi Gras loot.
Part 5:During Mardi Gras season, some look forward to the fried and the greasy. But local chef Antonio Smith thinks his homemade goods are better. Producer Ben Ethridge explores the culinary side of the holiday.
