Overview of the South Alabama Women’s Basketball 2026 Season

Article by: Drayten Nobles, Contributing Writer

With the South Alabama women’s basketball season concluded, fans certainly have something to look forward to in the future. The Lady Jaguars finished the season with a record of 17-19 and a record of 5-13 in conference play. While the Jaguars’ record may not look as good as they might have hoped for in the preseason, the Jaguars made an amazing run in the conference tournament to keep their season alive.

During the season, the team hit a rough patch in conference play, losing 10 straight conference games at one point, but the Lady Jaguars came alive in the conference tournament. After winning four straight games in the Sun Belt Tournament, the Jags’ Cinderella run in the tournament was eventually ended by James Madison. The incredible tournament run would land the Jaguars a spot in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. After defeating Alcorn State in the first round, the Jaguars would soon fall to Purdue Fort Wayne in the 2nd round, with the final score being 77-72. In a season of chaos, the Jags’ sisterhood held strong and helped the team finish on a positive note.

Amiyah Sutton served as the team’s leading scorer, averaging 11.6 points per game. As the defensive anchor, Cordasia Harris was dominant all season long. With averages of 11.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, Harris was the team’s leader on both ends of the court throughout the season. Chyrsta Narcisse was huge down the stretch of the season, scoring 24 points in the third round of the Sun Belt Tournament against Coastal Carolina to help the Jags secure the win. Other players had big contributions to the teams, such as Diawna Carter-Hartley, Daniela Gonzalez, and more.

As the Jags head into the offseason, they’re hoping to carry the momentum from the end of the season into the 2027 season. For more information, visit Women’s Basketball – University of South Alabama Athletics
